Otto Iskandardinata ( Si Jalak Harupat )

Raden Otto Iskandardinata (born in Bandung, West Java, March 31, 1897 - died in Mauk, Tangerang, Banten, December 20, 1945 at the age of 48 years) is one of the National Hero of Indonesia. He got the nickname Si Jalak Harupat.
Otto Iskandardinata was born on March 31, 1897 in Bojongsoang, Bandung regency. Otto's father was highborn Sunda named Nataatmadja. Otto was the third of nine children.
Otto was educated basically in Hollandsch-Inlandsche School (HIS) Bandung, then continue in Kweekschool Onderbouw (School Teacher Part One) Bandung, as well as in Hogere Kweekschool (School Teachers SMA) in Purworejo, Central Java. Having finished school, Otto became his teacher in Banjarnegara, Central Java. In July 1920, Otto moved to Bandung and in his teaching as well as the association of University People's subsidized.

pre-independence

In movement activities in the period before independence, Otto has served as Vice Chairman of Budi Utomo Bandung branch in the period 1921-1924, as well as Vice Chairman of Budi Utomo Pekalongan branch in 1924. At that time, he became a member Gemeenteraad ("City Council") Pekalongan represent Budi Utomo.
Oto is also active in an organization called the Society of Sundanese Sundanese culture. He became Secretary of the Executive Board in 1928, and became its chairman in the period 1929-1942. The organization is engaged in education, socio-cultural, political, economic, youth, and women's empowerment.
Otto is also a member of the People's Council ("Council of the People", a sort of Parliament) which was formed during the Dutch East Indies for the period 1930-1941.
During the Japanese occupation, Otto became Leader newspaper Tjahaja (1942-1945). He later became a member BPUPKI and PPKI established by the Japanese occupation government as institutions that assist in the preparation of Indonesian independence.

post-independence

After the proclamation of independence, Otto served as Minister of State in the first cabinet of the Republic of Indonesia in 1945. He was in charge of preparing the establishment of camps BKR people spread all over Indonesia. In performing its duties, Otto thought to have lead to dissatisfaction on one of these irregulars. He became a victim of kidnapping a group of people named Warriors Black, until then missing and presumed killed in Banten.

Otto Iskandardinata appointed as National Hero by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No. 088 / TK / 1973, dated November 6, 1973. A monument struggle North London in Lembang, Bandung named "Monument Sand Heroes" was established to perpetuate the struggle.
